Bono Region, Ghana:  Former President John Dramani Mahama announced his commitment to abolishing the Teacher Licensure Exams during his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region. He argued that subjecting teacher trainees to an additional assessment for qualification is unnecessary.

This stance has, however, faced criticism from the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), which emphasizes the importance of the licensure exams in ensuring the competence of teachers.

Abolishing Teacher Licensure Exams

Former President John Dramani Mahama, also the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to abolish the Teacher Licensure Exams if elected. He believed that subjecting teacher trainees to an additional exam is redundant.

 

Criticism from CETAG

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has criticized Mahama’s proposal, emphasizing the importance of licensure exams in assessing the readiness and competence of teacher trainees before they enter the profession.
