Launch Event Highlights

At the launch event held at the Ministry of Education in Accra, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, praised the University of Cape Coast (UCC) for spearheading curriculum development efforts. He highlighted the transformative potential of STEM education in shaping students’ futures.

Key Stakeholders Present

The event saw the participation of prominent figures, including representatives from UCC, government officials, and education experts. Notable attendees included Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Provost of the College of Education Studies at UCC, and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education.

Impact of STEM Education

Dr. Adutwum cited success stories from Afia Kobi Girls’ Senior High School, where students applied STEM knowledge to innovate drones and sea crafts for underwater exploration. He also unveiled architectural designs for STEM schools and laboratories, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing modern facilities.

Commitment to Support

The Minister called on the National Teaching Council (NTC), Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support UCC’s STEM initiatives. He pledged to ensure successful student enrollment in the STEM program for the upcoming academic year.

Gratitude and Vision

Prof. Davis expressed gratitude for the Minister’s leadership, which inspired UCC to develop a comprehensive STEM curriculum. He outlined three programs designed by UCC, marking a significant milestone in advancing holistic STEM education in Ghana.

By prioritizing STEM education, Ghana aims to equip future generations with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
