On the 21st of July 2023, the 7th edition of the Women in the Classroom Conference took place at Somanya’s University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD).

The event, organized by Youngsters and Teachers Hub in collaboration with GNAT Yilo Krobo Municipality and 1 Million Teachers, aimed to empower and uplift female teachers in the region. Titled “BECOMING,” the conference featured esteemed speakers and dignitaries who inspired, educated, and motivated the participants.

The enthusiastic audience benefited from the insightful talks delivered by distinguished speakers such as Emmaline Datey, Mavis A. Leonards, and Barbara Dede Sedode, who encouraged participants to fearlessly embrace their potential.

During the panel discussion, Lucy Amanda Asamoah, the National Vice President of GNAT, shared her perspective, highlighting the organization’s commitment to positively impact women and recognizing their vital role in shaping the future of education and society.

Keynote Speaker Dr. (Mrs.) I. Stella Agyenim-Boateng emphasized the significance of discipline and optimism in creating a brighter future, motivating participants to overcome challenges and pursue their aspirations.

Dr. Afua Boatemaa Yakohene skillfully chaired the event, ensuring a seamless flow and adding gravitas to the occasion.

A significant moment during the conference was the acknowledgement of 60 exceptional female teachers who received citations for their dedication and hard work in shaping the minds of the younger generation.

Esteemed officials, including Lily Otoo, the National Gender Coordinator for GNAT; Lydia Ama Hayford, the Municipal Secretary for Yilo Krobo; and the Senior Assistant Registrar of UESD; attended the conference, along with National, Regional, and District Executives who emphasized the conference’s importance in empowering women in the education sector.

Each participating teacher was offered enrollment in a development program with 1 Million Teachers, providing them with additional resources and skills to enhance their teaching abilities.

With a notable history of four years, the Women in the Classroom Conference continues to empower female educators, enabling them to become catalysts for positive change in their classrooms and communities.
