North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has cut sod for 15 major education projects valued at GHS107 million, marking the largest educational infrastructure intervention in the constituency’s history.

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has cut sod for what he describes as the biggest educational intervention in the history of the constituency, involving 15 mega education projects valued at GHS107 million.

The projects, which cut across second-cycle and basic education, are expected to significantly expand access, improve infrastructure, and restore schools affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Major Upgrades for All Five SHSs in North Tongu

All five public senior high schools in North Tongu are set to benefit from large-scale infrastructure development. The beneficiary schools are:

  • Mepe St. Kizito Senior High School
  • Battor Senior High School
  • Aveyime Battor Secondary Technical School
  • Dorfor Senior High School
  • Volo Senior High School

Each school will receive 2,500-capacity dining hall complexes, along with new boys’ and girls’ dormitories, depending on institutional needs.

At Volo Senior High School, the project also includes Phase Two of the E-Block, which will enable the school to operate fully as a boarding institution.

New Basic Schools to Replace Flood-Damaged Facilities

Beyond the SHS projects, the intervention includes the construction of new basic schools across all traditional areas within the constituency.

Special emphasis has been placed on Mepe, where several school buildings were destroyed during the Akosombo Dam spillage. The new facilities are intended to replace damaged infrastructure and restore normal teaching and learning conditions.

Construction to Begin Immediately

According to the MP, competitive procurement processes have been completed, and contractors are expected to move to site immediately.

This clears the way for full-scale construction without delay, a development welcomed by education stakeholders in the constituency.

Acknowledgement of National and Regional Support

Mr. Ablakwa expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Education, and the Administrator of GETFund for their support and commitment to the project.

He also acknowledged the presence and support of the Volta Regional Minister and traditional authorities, describing their involvement as critical to the success of the intervention.

“Not Just Buildings, but the Future”

Describing the initiative as more than an infrastructure project, the MP noted that the investment is aimed at empowering the next generation and positioning North Tongu as a strong contributor to national development.

He reaffirmed his development philosophy of “under-promising and over-delivering,” which he described as his consistent approach to public service.
