Ferdinand | EducationGhana |July 26|FIFA to Provide 30,000 Footballs to Ghanaian Public Schools
In a joint effort with the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Education, the International Football Association (FIFA) is set to distribute 30,000 footballs to 3,000 public schools across Ghana. This initiative is part of the FIFA Football for Schools project, which is scheduled to kick off from August 10 to August 12, 2023.
The Ghana Football Association, in a recent blog post reported by AcademicWeek.com, revealed that the distribution of footballs is a significant component of the project.
The goal is to promote football in schools and encourage physical activity among students.
As part of this endeavour, selected Physical Education (PE) teachers from all regions of Ghana will undergo training from FIFA Specialists to become Trainers themselves.
These trained teachers will then pass on their knowledge to other PE Teachers within their respective regions.
The decision to embark on this football project follows the approval of the Ghana Football Association’s application for the FIFA Football for Schools Programme.
This approval, based on FIFA guidelines, was given after a comprehensive review of the documentation provided.
FIFA’s Director of Football for Schools, Fatimata Sidibe, expressed approval and support for the program’s implementation in Ghana.
The partnership between FIFA and the Ghana Football Association extends beyond equipment distribution.
The collaboration aims to introduce the Football for Schools mobile app in Ghana, which will be coordinated by FIFA’s administration.
This effort includes training and capacity-building support for users, primarily selected public schools across the nation.
FIFA will supply the 30,000 footballs to Ghana, with the expectation that the Ministry of Education will facilitate the process of clearing the footballs and ensuring timely distribution to schools across all regions.
The Ghana Football Association emphasized its cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education for the successful execution of this program.
The initiative targets students aged 10 to 14 and strives for gender equality by selecting mixed-gender schools.
This step is aligned with the Association’s commitment to encouraging girls’ involvement in football from a young age.
President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s approval, highlighting the benefits it will bring to schools, colleges, PE teachers, and students aged 10 to 14.
He assured that the Association would work diligently alongside its partners, including FIFA, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure the success of this excellent programme.
