The Ministry of Education (MoE), in collaboration with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), has announced a significant reduction in the number of Senior High School (SHS) subjects from 63 to 37. This change is part of a new proposed SHS curriculum set to commence in the upcoming academic year.

New Curriculum Structure

The new SHS curriculum categorizes subjects into Elective Subjects and Core Subjects.

Elective Subjects:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Computing
  • Agriculture
  • Physical Education & Health
  • Home Economics
  • History
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • Government
  • Art and Design Studio
  • Performing Arts
  • Applied Technology
  • Business
  • Religious Studies
  • Literature-in-English
  • ICT
  • Ghanaian Language
  • French*
  • Arabic*
  • Spanish*

Specialized Elective Subjects:

  • Engineering Science* + Robotics
  • Biomedical Science
  • Aviation and Aerospace Engineering
  • Robotics
  • Manufacturing Engineering

*Note: Languages and specialized subjects will be offered based on the availability of qualified teachers.

Core Subjects:

  • English Language
  • Additional Mathematics
  • Mathematics
  • General Science
  • Social Studies
  • Art & Design Foundation
  • Agricultural Science

Timetable Activities:

  • PEH (Physical Education & Health)
  • RME (Religious and Moral Education)
