WAEC Releases 2024 BECE Question Structure: Key Details for Candidates Revealed!
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled the structure and format of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) questions.
The 2024 BECE becomes the first BECE to be conducted under the new Common Core Programme Curriculum, which was introduced in 2020 by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).
Here’s a breakdown of what candidates can expect in various subjects:
Career Technology Examination
- Two papers (Papers 1 and 2) are to be taken in one sitting.
- Paper 1: 40 objective test questions to be answered in 50 minutes.
- Paper 2 (Part A and Part B): Candidates are to answer two out of three questions in each part, with one question being compulsory in each part.
Computing Examination
- Two-hour duration with two sections (Papers 1 and 2).
- Paper 1: 40 objective test questions to be answered in 45 minutes.
- Paper 2 (Section B): Four questions, of which candidates must choose and answer any three.
Creative Arts and Design Examination
- Two sections (Paper 1 and 2) span 2 hours and 5 minutes.
- Paper 1: 40 objective test questions to be answered in 50 minutes.
- Paper 2 (Sections A, B, and C): Candidates to answer one question from each section.
English Language Examination:
- Two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) to be taken at a sitting.
- Paper 1: Objective test comprising Grammar Usage and Oral Language components.
- Paper 2: Consists of three parts – Writing, Reading (Comprehension and Summarising), and Literature.
French Examination
- Three papers (Paper 1, 2, and 3), with Paper 3 (Oral Expression/Conversation tests) currently on hold due to logistic constraints,.
- Paper 1: Objective test covering listening comprehension and written comprehension.
