Ferdinand | EducationGhana | February 25 | NaCCA Clarifies Certification on Common Core Programme (CCP) Subjects for 2024 BECE
“National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) addresses misinformation regarding the Common Core Programme (CCP) and 2024 BECE subjects. Get accurate details and updates from official sources.”
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has issued a formal clarification regarding the Certification on Common Core Programme (CCP) Subjects for the upcoming 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), aiming to rectify misinformation circulating in certain sections of the media.
In an official release dated February 23, 2024, NaCCA addressed misconceptions surrounding the implementation of the CCP Curriculum and the subjects to be examined in the upcoming BECE scheduled for July 2024.
Contrary to widespread speculation, NaCCA emphasized that JHS leavers would not be examined on eight (8) compulsory subjects with the option of selecting one additional optional subject.
Instead, all learners under the CCP Curriculum are expected to study and be examined on the same number of subjects.
These subjects include English Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Ghanaian Language, Religious and Moral Education, Creative Arts, Career Technology, Computing, French, and Arabic.
It is crucial to note that there are no optional subjects within the CCP Curriculum. Schools are required to choose any of the Ghanaian Languages based on their capacity, and learners will be examined on these languages at the BECE.
This approach aims to promote indigenous languages and foster a sense of Ghanaian identity among learners without introducing optional subjects.
NaCCA reiterated its commitment to promoting and preserving indigenous languages, providing opportunities for learners to showcase proficiency in their mother tongue.
Provisions have been made for various Ghanaian languages to be examined at the BECE level, including Twi (Asante), Twi (Akuapem), Ewe, Ga-Adangbe, Dagbanlı, Nzema, Fante, Gurune, among others.
