Speaking at the awards ceremony, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo praised Ghanaian teachers for their dedication and commitment to the nation’s development through education.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the significant investments in the education sector would not yield results without teachers.
He acknowledged the crucial role teachers play in training the nation’s skilled workforce and promised to continue supporting the sector to ensure effective teaching and learning across all schools in the country.
President Akufo-Addo mentioned initiatives such as the payment of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance to teachers, provision of laptops to teachers, and upgrading Diploma certificates to Degrees for Colleges of Education as measures to improve education development in the country.
The President assured all teachers who have not yet received their laptops under the One Teacher One Laptop project that efforts would be made to ensure they receive theirs. He urged the Education Minister to take necessary actions for the outstanding laptops to be distributed to deserving teachers.
President Akufo-Addo commended the National Teaching Council (NTC) and other institutions that contributed to the awards for their commitment to honouring the nation’s dedicated teachers.
He was pleased with the positive outcomes resulting from the substantial investments in the education sector, citing high scores achieved by this year’s students in the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) across all subjects.
The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, expressed gratitude to the President for his commitment and interest in the country’s educational development.
He assured the President of his determination to continue working hard to achieve the best education for the nation, emphasizing that education is the driving force for a country’s progress.
The Education Minister called on all stakeholders in the education sector to persevere in their efforts to transform the country through education.
Dr. Adutwum stated that education not only serves the youth but also positions the nation as a leader in various fields by equipping people with critical thinking skills and knowledge necessary for economic development.
Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the NTC, praised the sponsors and institutions that played a role in honoring the teachers, expressing appreciation and motivation for their contributions.
He committed to making further efforts to improve the quality of teaching in schools by implementing the right initiatives for maintaining instructional quality.
Dr. Addai-Poku also called for action to address the high teacher attrition rate in the country, which poses a significant threat to national development.
