In a thrilling battle of wits, the NSMQ 2023 One-Eighth Stage competition at the KNUST Auditorium on October 12, 2023, ended on a bittersweet note for the participating schools.

The 30th Anniversary edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz, which commenced on October 6, 2023, highlights the 30th Anniversary celebrations.
This year’s NSMQ is notably hosted in two regions: KNUST in Kumasi and National Theatre in Accra, marking the first time the National Championship spans across two regions.
KNUST served as the venue for the Preliminary four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled at the National Theatre.
Ghana Senior High, among the seeded schools from the Eastern Region, showcased their academic excellence in the NSMQ 2022.
In the early rounds, St. Mary’s Boys’ took an initial lead but was closely followed by the other schools. Ghana Senior High faced challenges and made occasional errors, as is expected in this fiercely competitive environment.
After protests from the schools, the Quiz Mistress revisited answers, awarding extra points to St. Mary’s Boys’ and Ghana Senior High.
St. John’s School excelled in the Speed Race round, securing a considerable lead by the round’s end. St. Mary’s Boys protested an answer but to no avail.
St. Mary’s Boys’ showed resilience and staged a comeback in the Problem of the Day, overtaking St. John’s School by nine points, while Ghana Senior High secured additional points.
St. John’s School’s remarkable performance in the True/False Stage secured its first-place position with an excellent score of 38 points.
In the Riddles section, St. John’s maintained their lead, securing their place in the contest’s final rounds, and moving on to the Quarter-final Stage. Ghana Senior High’s total of 27 points wasn’t enough to advance, and St. Mary’s Boys gained an extra 03 points.
