The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast has inaugurated a Search Committee, chaired by Prof. William Otto Ellis, to identify and recommend candidates for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.
The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has formally inaugurated a Search Committee to identify and recommend qualified candidates for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor of the University. The committee was sworn in at a brief ceremony held on the UCC campus,
in line with Statutes 8.15, 8.16 and 8.17 of the University of Cape Coast Statutes, 2016, which require the establishment of a search body whenever a vacancy in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor is anticipated or occurs.
Composition of the Search Committee
The Search Committee is chaired by Professor William Otto Ellis, a seasoned academic and former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The Registrar of UCC, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., serves as Secretary to the committee.
Other members include:
- Mr. Mohammed A. Quantson – Governing Council representative
- Ms. Shika Acolatse – Governing Council representative
- Prof. Rosemond Boohene – Academic Board representative (Professorial)
- Dr. Selorm Akaba – Academic Board representative (Non-professorial)
Mandate and Scope of Work
The committee is mandated to conduct extensive consultations and enquiries within the University community, including engagement with staff and alumni, using a comprehensive and structured assessment process. At the conclusion of its work, the committee is expected to submit a shortlist of not more than two candidates to the Governing Council for consideration and final appointment.
Council Chairman Calls for Integrity and Transparency
Administering the oath of office, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Justice William Anaam Atuguba (rtd.), urged members of the Search Committee to discharge their responsibilities in the best interests of both the University and the nation. He described the Vice-Chancellor as the driving force of the University, stressing that the selection process must be guided by transparency, competence, and integrity.
Assurance of a Fair Process
Responding on behalf of the committee, Prof. William Otto Ellis expressed appreciation to the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in the team. He assured the University community that the committee would carry out its work with diligence, fairness, and strict adherence to merit. Members of the Governing Council were present at the ceremony.
