In an effort to streamline the teacher licensing process and ensure efficient communication with trainee teachers, the National Teaching Council (NTC) has introduced an indexing system as part of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) reforms.

This system involves collecting the details of all trainees in the Colleges of Education to generate specific codes, enabling easy access to the NTC website.

With this initiative, the NTC aims to enhance the overall teacher licensing process and improve the quality of education in the country.

Indexing Process

Under the new indexing system, trainee teachers will receive SMS messages from the NTC through the mobile numbers provided to their respective colleges.

These messages will contain vital information such as the trainee’s name, unique code, and a link to the NTC website.

Trainees are expected to open the link and complete any necessary requirements as requested by the NTC.

Importance of Indexing for Teacher Trainees

Indexing holds significant importance as it serves as a prerequisite for trainee teachers to sit for the examination for unlicensed teachers, known as the GTLE (Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination).

NTC Indexing Fee for Teacher Trainees

Starting this year, the NTC has also introduced an indexing fee of 50 Ghana Cedis per student, which has been approved by Parliament under fees and charges.

Failure to complete the indexing process will result in trainees being ineligible to write the GTLE.

NTC Indexing Challenges and How to address them

The NTC understands that some trainees may encounter challenges in receiving their SMS messages or face difficulties in paying the indexing fee at the bank.

In such cases, trainees are advised to reach out to their college authorities to confirm if their information has been sent to the NTC.

Alternatively, they can contact their respective TTAG (Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana) sector executives for further assistance.

The NTC aims to ensure that all trainees have an opportunity to complete the indexing process and proceed with their licensing requirements.

The implementation of the indexing system by the National Teaching Council marks a significant step towards improving the teacher licensing process in the country.

By collecting trainees’ details and providing them with unique codes, the NTC enables easy access to their website and ensures that only licensed teachers can sit for the GTLE.

Trainees are encouraged to actively participate in the indexing process and seek assistance from college authorities or TTAG sector executives if needed.

With these measures in place, the NTC aims to foster a more efficient and effective teacher licensing system, ultimately benefiting the education sector as a whole.
