In a riveting display of academic prowess, Bishop Herman College (BIHECO) emerged triumphant in the One-Eighth Stage of the 30th Anniversary edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) held at the Kumaplay Auditorium on October 11, 2023.

The NSMQ 2023, a significant highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, takes place across two distinct regions, with Kumaplay Auditorium hosting the preliminary stages.

This historic event marks the first time the National Championship spans two regions, including the National Theatre in Accra, where the Grand Finale will enthral audiences.

The competition commenced at 8:30 a.m., with Dr. Anita Oppong, the quiz mistress, introducing the participants at 9:10 a.m. The OLA Girls’ SHS, Ho, was one of the teams competing at the One-Eighth Stage, and they displayed their determination by advancing through a hard-fought tiebreaker.

However, the One-Eighth Stage proved to be a riveting battle, featuring OLA Girls’ SHS, Bishop Herman College, and Adidome SHS. After the first two rounds, BIHECO established a significant lead, displaying their academic excellence.

A surprising twist occurred during the competition, with Adidome SHS achieving the highest score of 8/10 in the Problem of the Day, resulting in a tie at 21 points with BIHECO.

Adidome continued to press their advantage, leading to another tie in Round 4, with both teams at 28 points.

Nevertheless, when the contest concluded, Bishop Herman College showcased their supremacy by securing a place in the next stage with an impressive score of 37 points. Their remarkable performance was further crowned with the prestigious Goil Riddle Bonanza Prize worth GH₵1,200, earned by correctly answering three out of the four Riddle questions in Round Five.

  • OLA Girls’ SHS, Ho: 15 points
  • Bishop Herman College: 19 points
  • Adidome SHS: 13 points

• Round Three (Problem of the Day):

  • OLA Girls’ SHS, Ho: 17 points
  • Bishop Herman College: 21 points
  • Adidome SHS: 21 points

• Round Four (True/False):

  • OLA Girls’ SHS, Ho: 24 points
  • Bishop Herman College: 28 points
  • Adidome SHS: 28 points

• Round Five (Riddle):

  • OLA Girls’ SHS, Ho: 24 points
