Ferdinand | EducationGhana | October 10 | 2023 NSMQ: Wesley Girls SHS silenced ‘Noisy’ St Peter’s SHS to enter One-eighth Stage
Wesley Girls’ High School, Louis Rutten SHS (one of the first-time private school competitors), and St. Peter’s SHS were the first schools to compete on the last day of the Prelims at the KNUST Auditorium.
Following St. Peter’s victory over Wesley Girls’ SHS in 2019 with a score of 49 points, the girls were determined to seek revenge this time around. They successfully qualified for the One-eighth stage with an impressive score of 52 points.
When WEYGEYHEY finally got their sweet revenge on St Peter’s SHS by winning with 52 points
The 30th Anniversary edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz kicked off, on October 6th, 2023. As an exciting highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, this year’s NSMQ is being hosted in two distinct regions:
KNUST in Kumasi and the National Theatre in Accra. This historic occurrence represents the first time the National Championship spans across two regions.
KNUST will serve as the venue for the preliminary four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled to captivate audiences at the National Theatre.
All the contestants were in their seats by 8 a.m., eagerly anticipating the start of the competition.
The Quiz Mistress, Mrs. Gladys Odey Schwinger, officially launched the contest at 9:15 a.m. Vying for a prized position in the one-eighth stage of the National Science & Maths Quiz 2023, were Wesley Girls’ SHS, St. Peter’s SHS, and first-time participants, the private school, Louis Rutten SHS.
The sad moment St. Peter’s SHS lost to Wesley Girls SHS after the fifth Round
After Round Two concluded, numerous controversies arose, compelling the Quiz Mistress, Mrs. Gladys Odey Schwinger, to revisit and rephrase some of the questions she had posed.
Protests from both St. Peter’s SHS and Wesley Girls’ SHS led to a time delay of 25 minutes. However, after contacting the consultants, Wesley Girls’ SHS was awarded three additional marks for correctly answering the protested question. Consequently, ‘GeyHey’ took the lead in Round Two with a total of 22 points.
