Meeting Highlights
In a recent meeting between the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) held on February 13th, 2024, several crucial updates and guidelines for the upcoming 2024 examinations were discussed and revealed.
Accurate Data Entry and Registration
Schools are urged to ensure the accurate entry of students’ data during the registration process. Candidates are advised to provide the correct details to facilitate smooth registration procedures.
Examination Conduct
- Ghana will exclusively conduct the examinations, distinguishing itself from other counterparts.
- Questions will be serialized, following the pattern of the past three years (2021, 2022, and 2023).
- All topics across the curriculum will be covered, including new topics.
- Examiners are instructed to set content questions that require practical application and critical thinking.
Time Allocation and Additional Subjects
- The time allocation for subjects remains unchanged from previous examinations.
- Creative Arts is introduced as an additional subject, alongside Career Technology and Computing (formerly BDT and ICT, respectively).
Preparation and Curriculum Completion
- Teachers are tasked with completing the curriculum with students before the specified deadline.
- Mock exams should include critical thinking questions to prepare candidates adequately.

Registration Details for BECE 2024
- The registration portal opens from February 26th, 2024, to April 5th, 2024.
- Except for Ghanaian Language, French, and Arabic, all other subjects are core.
- BECE examinations are scheduled to take place from July 8th to July 12th, 2024.
NB: A new update indicates that computing shall replace Ghanaian language in the optional subjects for BECE 2024.
With these updates and guidelines in place, both WAEC and GES are committed to ensuring a successful and efficient examination process for all candidates.
It is imperative for schools, teachers, and students to adhere to these directives to facilitate a smooth examination experience.
