In an ambitious stride to bolster Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, has unveiled an inspiring initiative

The announcement comes as a beacon of innovation, as aviation and aerospace courses are set to become integral components of the curriculum in select Senior High Schools.

During a visit to Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School, a pioneer in engineering endeavours with a miniature aeroplane project, Dr. Adutwum shared that the government is determined to elevate STEM education by integrating aviation and aerospace studies into the formal academic program, rather than treating them as mere extracurricular pursuits.

In his address to the students, Dr Adutwum highlighted that around 12 schools are poised to introduce aviation and aerospace courses in the upcoming year, marking a significant departure from clubs to dedicated academic programs.

These courses are envisioned to complement traditional subjects like physics, chemistry, and advanced mathematics, enhancing the overall learning experience.

Commending Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School for its groundbreaking strides, Dr. Adutwum expressed optimism about the school’s transformation into a STEM-focused institution.

He lauded the school’s innovative “drop everything and read” initiative and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to foster academic excellence. Specifically, he pledged the establishment of a library to facilitate learning and growth.

Moreover, Dr Adutwum assured that the Ministry of Education is dedicated to supporting the transition towards a more STEM-oriented curriculum.

This commitment involves equipping schools with essential resources, including STEM labs that will serve as hubs for robotics, artificial intelligence projects, and other innovative educational endeavours.
