Ferdinand | EducationGhana | January 17 |NTC Announces March Resit Date for 2023 GTLE for 8,000 Prospective Teachers
“The National Teaching Council (NTC) reveals that the resit date for the 2023 Teacher Licensure Exams (GTLE) is set for March. Approximately 8,000 teachers who did not meet the required threshold during the initial exams will have the opportunity to retake the licensure exams.”
The Registrar of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, has announced that the resit date for the 2023 Teacher Licensure Exams (GTLE) is scheduled for March. This decision comes after approximately 8,000 teachers out of over 20,000 participants did not meet the required threshold during the initial exams.
Out of the 20,181 teachers who sat for the 2023 GTLE 2&3, a significant number of 9,556, representing over 30%, failed to meet the pass mark. Dr. Christian Addai-Poku emphasized that the NTC is committed to ensuring that only qualified teachers are placed in classrooms.

While addressing concerns about the availability of teaching vacancies, Dr. Addai-Poku clarified that the NTC does not regulate and license only public school teachers. The licensing process aims to ensure that teachers, regardless of whether they end up in public or private institutions, meet the necessary standards and qualifications.
He stated, “We expect that when people go through the system and they get licensed, some of them may get absorbed by the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service.”
The NTC encourages the 8,000 teachers who did not meet the required threshold in the initial exams to take advantage of the opportunity to retake the licensure exams in March. This initiative aligns with the council’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the education sector and ensuring that teachers are adequately prepared for their roles in the classroom.
