“In a fierce battle of intellect, PRESEC emerges victorious to reach the Grand Finale of NSMQ 2023.”
Kumasi, Ghana – In a thrilling and intense battle of wits, the Semi-finals of the 2023 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) showcased three formidable contenders who had made it through the One-Eighth Stage with unwavering determination and enthusiasm.
With an electric atmosphere and an audience brimming with excitement, the stage was set for the most highly anticipated showdown of the competition. The Quiz Mistress, the esteemed Prof. Elsie Kaufmann, radiated an air of majesty as she patiently awaited the commencement of this historic contest.
The Semi-finals featured a remarkable clash between the seven-time champions of the National Science & Maths Quiz, PRESEC, the two-time victors, Mfantsipim School, and Keta SHTS. In the end, PRESEC secured an impressive victory with 44 points, cementing their place in the fifth successive Grand Finale.
The 30th Anniversary edition of the NSMQ, which kicked off on October 6, 2023, has been a highlight of the year’s celebrations. This year’s competition is unique as it is hosted in two distinct regions: KNUST in Kumasi and the National Theatre in Accra.
This historic occurrence marks the first time the National Championship spans across two regions. KNUST served as the venue for the Preliminary four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled at the National Theatre on 31st October 2023.
The opening round of the Semi-finals was a showcase of intellectual prowess. Mfantsipim impressively notched up 22 points, closely followed by PRESEC with 20 points, and Keta SHTS securing 17 points. The challenge was set.
The Speed Race segment saw a sprint-like contest, with Odade3’s Partey delivering a remarkable response, catapulting their score to 27 points. Mfantsipim and KETA SHS closely followed with 25 and 23 points, respectively.
