“The Ghana Teacher Prize 2023 is set to honour exceptional educators in various categories, coinciding with World Teachers’ Day. Driven by the spirit of innovation, the event recognizes teachers’ pivotal role in shaping quality education.”
Accra, Ghana. In a resounding celebration of educational excellence and innovation, the highly anticipated Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) 2023 is gearing up to take centre stage.
Formerly known as the National Best Teacher Award, this prestigious event is scheduled to unfold from October 3rd to October 5th, 2023.
The vibrant setting for this year’s edition is the Ghana Senior High Technical School located in the heart of Takoradi in the Western Region.
Tightly aligned with the global tribute to educators, the GTP is ingeniously timed to coincide with World Teachers’ Day, which unfailingly arrives on October 5th each year.
This synchronicity underscores the event’s significance and amplifies the gratitude and admiration poured into the teaching community.
Categories of Awards
Anchored by four prominent categories, the event’s spotlight will shine on Teaching, Non-teaching, Teacher in Leadership and Administration, and Best College of Education Teacher.
These categories further expand into a constellation of subcategories that encompass various facets of pedagogical excellence.
From the Most Outstanding Teacher to the dynamic First and Second runners-up, and spanning specialities like Best Early Grade Teacher, Best Primary Teacher, Best Junior High School, and Best Senior High School/Technical and Vocational Education and Training Teacher, the GTP leaves no stone unturned in recognizing excellence across the educational spectrum.
Selection Process
Dr Christian Addai-Poku, the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, shared insights into the rigorous selection process, hinting at the unveiling of the top 23 candidates who have captured the essence of exceptional teaching.
These standout educators will ultimately take their well-deserved bows on the grand stage of the 2023 Ghana Teacher Prize event.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum’s Commendation
Speaking at the event’s launch, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, voiced the critical role teachers play in the pursuit of quality education.
He passionately emphasized the need for transformative and innovative teachers to navigate the transformation of Ghana’s education system.
A beacon of progress, the Ministry has effectively tackled the challenge of increasing student enrollment by optimizing the teacher-to-student ratio, ensuring that every learner receives attention and guidance.
Acknowledging the dedication and commitment of teachers over the years, Dr. Adutwum’s words resonated deeply within the education community.
NAGRAT on Decentralization of Awards
Mr. Angel Carbonu, President of the National Graduate Association of Teachers, echoed the sentiment by proposing an inspiring notion – to extend these accolades beyond the national stage.
He advocated for similar recognition at regional, district, and school levels, believing that this broader approach would invigorate and empower educators at every tier.
The Ghana Teacher Prize is a prestigious award that recognizes the outstanding work of teachers in Ghana. The prize is a testament to the importance of teachers in the education system and their role in shaping the future of Ghana.
