Master Amo-Kodieh Leonard Kofi Marton of St. James Seminary wins GH¢30,000 for securing the top spot in the 2023 WASSCE. GES and WAEC honour top performers in a grand ceremony.

In a remarkable achievement, Master Amo-Kodieh Leonard Kofi Marton from St. James Seminary Senior High School has been awarded a GH¢30,000 cheque for securing the first position in the 2023 West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This prestigious award was presented during the WAEC Distinction Awards held in Accra on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

WAEC Distinction Awards 2023

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) hosted the Distinction Awards to honour the top-performing candidates of the WASSCE 2023.

The event celebrated the academic excellence of students across the five member countries that participated in the examination, recognizing their hard work and dedication.

Top Performers Honored

  • First Place: Master Amo-Kodieh Leonard Kofi Marton, St. James Seminary Senior High School, emerged as the best candidate in Ghana and the top candidate among 2,327,342 students from five member countries.
  • First Runner-Up: Master Dzandu Selorm from Labone Senior High School.
  • Second Runner-Up: Master Daniel Asenso-Gyambibi from St. James Seminary.

Programme Award Winners

  1. General Arts: Laudina Adutwumwaa from St. Monica’s Senior High School.
  2. Business: Kwasi Asare Adjei-Fordjour from St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast.
  3. Technical: Akosua Adjei Boateng from Juaso Senior High Technical School, Juaso- Ashanti.

International Excellence Recognition

In March 2024, Leonard, Selorm, and Daniel represented Ghana proudly by securing the top three positions out of 2,327,342 candidates from five member countries at the WAEC International Excellence Awards.

This event took place during the 72nd Annual WAEC Council Meeting in Freetown, Sierra Leone, further highlighting their exceptional academic prowess on an international stage.

GES Commendation

The Ghana Education Service (GES) extended heartfelt congratulations to the award-winning students and their respective schools.
