The Odumase Basic School in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region has been closed down after youths in the community attacked teachers with cutlasses.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, April 14, 2023, was said to have been caused by a student who went home to call his relatives after being punished by a teacher in the school.
According to eyewitnesses, the student is a JHS male who was playing with mango in the classroom whiles the teacher was teaching.
The student who was been punished by the teacher was said to have left for the house to bring his relative who came to the compound with cutlasses to attack the teachers.
Casualties
Two female teachers including a pregnant teacher were said to have sustained injuries during the attack on the teachers.
During the attack at the school, they allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on a woman who was close to the scene and nearly lynched a pregnant female teacher.
The Obuasi East District Director of Education, Kwabena Owusu Nketia who confirmed the incident said the school has been closed down following the violent attack.
He said the case has been reported to the police.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Obuasi East, Faustina Amissah condemned the incident.
She called on residents to help identify the culprits and hand them over to the police.
Ms. Amissah assured the suspects will face the full rigors of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
