EducationGhana| January 29| JHS and SHS Education: The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has said that the separation of Junior High School (JHS) from Senior HIGH School (SHS) was the cause of the poor state of JHS Education in Ghana.
He, therefore, suggested that there should be a link between the JHS and SHS Education in Ghana.
Cambridge Education System
Speaking on Joy News Channel, the Education Minister said effective measures are being put in place by the government to pilot a secondary education structure that reflects the Cambridge education system.
He added, that the government has intended to use 10 schools for the piloting in the 2023 academic year.

Middle Schools
The Minister also said that the middle school that used to be part of elementary was maintained while using the same infrastructure in operationalising the government Junior High Schools across the country.
”And these schools don’t have science laboratories, libraries. But we still insisted with a stroke of a pen that they are high schools.” He said.
He indicated, that the government will strengthen the lower secondary by ensuring that it has similar facilities and support as high schools even though they are community-based.

Dr Adutwum further maintained that the government was constructing new JHS across the country with facilities similar to that of second cycle schools to ensure quality education.
“We are going to have schools that have libraries, chemistry, physics and biology science laboratories but they are junior high schools” He said.
He was however optimistic, that when JHS Education is strengthened, it shall give the students another quality three years secondary education.
