GES Rescinds Decision to Revoke Late 2024 Staff Appointments
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reversed its earlier decision to revoke the appointments and recruitments of staff employed late last year under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration. This latest directive follows widespread concerns over the impact of the revocation on affected teaching and non-teaching personnel.
Background: The Revocation of Appointments
On February 17, 2025, the GES issued a directive stating that all appointments and recruitments of staff who had yet to be placed on the government payroll had been revoked. The order was based on a directive from the Chief of Staff, as outlined in a letter from the Office of the President dated February 10, 2025.
At the time, Acting , instructed all Regional, District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Directors of Education to enforce strict compliance with the directive. The statement clarified that affected personnel would not be placed on the payroll, effectively nullifying their appointments.

Reinstatement and Validation Process Announced
However, in a new statement dated March 5, 2025, the GES has reversed its decision and directed that the appointments of affected staff be reinstated, pending a validation process.
In the statement, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis explained that the purpose of the validation process is to clean up the database of all recruited staff and ensure that only qualified individuals remain on the GES payroll.
To facilitate this process, a three-member committee has been established in each region. The committee will be comprised of:
✅ Regional Human Resource Officer
✅ Regional Internal Auditor
✅ Regional Accountant
Documents Required for Validation
Affected staff are required to submit the following documents as part of the validation process:
📌 Appointment Letter
📌 Academic Certificate
📌 Licensure Certificate
📌 National Service Certificate
The validation process is expected to be completed by March 14, 2025, and GES has urged full cooperation from all affected personnel to ensure a smooth exercise.
What This Means for Affected Staff
This reversal comes as a relief to teachers and non-teaching staff who had faced uncertainty regarding their employment status. The validation process will help authenticate their recruitment and clear any discrepancies in the payroll system.
The GES has assured staff and stakeholders that it remains committed to ensuring a transparent and accountable recruitment process in the education sector.
