GES Grants Students Holiday Following Independence Day Activities

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared Friday, March 7, 2025, as a holiday for all school children nationwide. This decision comes in recognition of the hard work and rigorous preparations students undertook for Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations, which took place on March 6, 2025.

Statement from the GES

In an official statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit of GES, the holiday was described as a well-deserved break for students who participated in various Independence Day parades and activities across the country.

📌 “This decision is to provide students with a well-deserved break after their rigorous preparations for the Independence Anniversary activities,” the statement read.

Resumption of Academic Activities

The GES assured parents, teachers, and school administrators that normal academic activities would resume on Monday, March 10, 2025.

📌 “Schools will resume fully on Monday, 10th March 2025. Parents and guardians are kindly requested to take note of this announcement,” the statement added.

Student and Public Reactions

The announcement has been welcomed with enthusiasm by many students across the country, as it offers them a chance to rest after their participation in national parades, cultural performances, and other activities commemorating Ghana’s 68th Independence Day.

While apologizing for any inconvenience the holiday may cause, the GES expressed appreciation to all stakeholders—including teachers, students, parents, and education officials—for their cooperation and efforts in ensuring the smooth observance of Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations.
