Education Minister Unveils Research Fund to Boost Ghana’s Universities
The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed plans to establish a National Research Fund designed to support research and innovation across Ghanaian universities, including the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
This announcement was made during a strategic meeting with UEW leadership on February 24, 2025, where the Minister highlighted the essential role of research in higher education.
Government’s Commitment to Research Excellence
Hon. Iddrisu recognized that public universities in Ghana, including UEW, have been grappling with funding challenges that impede quality research and development.
“Research is the backbone of education and national development. The National Research Fund will offer sustainable financial support for researchers to conduct innovative studies,” he remarked.
The Minister encouraged UEW to actively seek funding from the research fund once it is launched, ensuring that both faculty and students can benefit from research-driven learning experiences.
