Teachers Nationwide Push for Key GNAT Reforms: Common Resolutions for Local Conferences
Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) across the country are advocating for a series of reforms aimed at enhancing financial benefits, improving electoral processes, and ensuring greater financial security for teachers.
At the core of these resolutions is the expansion of GNAT’s electoral college, ensuring that all school representatives and local executives have the power to vote for national executives via short codes or decentralized voting venues.
These resolutions are being presented for discussion and approval at local conferences nationwide and require the collective efforts of all members to be successfully implemented.

Key GNAT Reforms Proposed
1. Expansion of the Electoral College
GNAT members are calling for a more inclusive voting process, allowing all school representatives and local executives to elect national executives through short codes or decentralized venues, ensuring transparency and participation at all levels.
2. Limiting Board Memberships for Executives
To promote fair representation and accountability, it is being proposed that no executive or officer should serve on more than two boards or committees within GNAT.
3. Reduction in GNAT Loan Interest Rates
Teachers are demanding lower interest rates on GNAT loans to provide members with more affordable financial assistance.
4. Faster Loan Disbursement from Teachers’ Fund
To ease financial burdens, members want the Teachers Fund to ensure loan disbursement within five working days after application approval.
5. Pension Support: Partial Withdrawal for Members Over 50 Years
GNAT members over 50 years or those who have contributed for more than 20 years should be allowed a one-time 50% partial withdrawal to help them prepare for retirement in advance.
6. Mutual Fund Partial Withdrawal After 10 Years
Mutual Fund contributors who have saved for at least 10 years should be permitted a 30% partial withdrawal, ensuring financial flexibility for long-term contributors.
7. Establishment of a GNAT Emergency Fund
Members are demanding the creation of a special emergency fund, sourced from proceeds from GNAT properties and dues, which will allow teachers to access up to GH¢5,000 emergency funds with little or no interest and flexible repayment terms within 24 hours.
Call to Action: Teachers Must Push for Reforms
GNAT members are urged to share this information with all school representatives, local executives, and district/circuit platforms to ensure these resolutions gain nationwide support.
📢 “Reforms don’t come easily, they must be demanded and pushed.”
How You Can Help:
