GES, in collaboration with NTC and KATON 360, announces May 21, 2025, as National CPD Day for teachers in Ghana, focusing on mental health and psychosocial well-being.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), in partnership with the National Teaching Council (NTC) and KATON 360, has declared Wednesday, May 21, 2025, as National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for all teachers across the country.
The nationwide virtual training session is designed to strengthen the capacity of educators by focusing on Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being—a vital area of professional development that directly impacts teacher performance and student outcomes.
Virtual, Inclusive, and Mandatory
The training will be conducted virtually, making it accessible to teachers in every region, district, and community, regardless of location. Master facilitators have already undergone preparatory training and are set to cascade the modules through established district channels.
A circular signed by Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Acting Deputy Director-General (Q&A) of GES, outlined the arrangements for the day. It includes a schedule, training materials, and account credentials for participating educators. All Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education have been tasked with ensuring effective communication and full participation from all teaching staff.

This year’s CPD theme underscores the urgent need to support teachers’ mental health, especially in the wake of increasing demands in classrooms. It aligns with GES’s broader objective to enhance the quality of education delivery through continuous professional learning and teacher welfare initiatives.
The virtual format reflects a progressive shift in the professional development model, using technology to democratize access to training and empower teachers with relevant skills for 21st-century challenges.
