Maths teacher preparing pupils for mock exams beaten by bees in the Sissala East Municipality, upper west region of Ghana.

A math and science teacher at Banu Junior High School in the Sissala West Municipality of the Upper West Region of Ghana was attacked by bees on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

The teacher, Eric Tunti, was instructing final-year pupils in class as they prepared for their mock exams when the bees suddenly burst into the room and began to assault him. To avoid the bees’ attack, the students in his class had to flee to safety.

Mr Tunti was stung multiple times on his face, lips, and hands. He was rushed to the local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The cause of the bee attack is not yet known. However, it is believed that the bees may have been attracted to the smell of food in the classroom.

This incident is a reminder of the dangers of bee stings. If you are ever attacked by bees, it is important to stay calm and seek medical attention immediately.

Here are some tips to avoid being attacked by bees:

1. Do not wear bright colours or perfumes, as these can attract bees.
2. If you see a hive, do not approach it.
3. If you are stung, remove the stinger as quickly as possible.
4. Apply a cold compress to the area of the sting.
5. Seek medical attention if you have multiple stings or if you are allergic to bees.
