EducationGhana| August 29| WAEC breaks silence on changes in 2022 BECE questions
Following purported new changes made in the 2022 BECE questions, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said the changes are to ensure smooth conduct of the examination and curb cases of examination malpractice.
The Head of National Office – WAEC, Wendy Addy Lamptey in a discussion monitored by AcademicWeek said despite the new changes, questions of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are based on the syllabus.
“The questions for the 2022 examination are coming from the syllabus. Candidates should not panic because of the new changes, they should just prepare for the Basic Certificate Examination,” Mrs Wendy Addy encouraged.
Kofi Cyril, the Head of Humanities and Languages Department – WAC, in the interview disclosed objective questions serialization is among the numerous changes made by the management of the non-profit-making organization.
Explaining what the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) defines as question serialization, Mr Cyril said “this academic year’s BECE and WASSCE for School objective questions are similar but with varied positions.”
School Selection
In a related development, WAEC has proposed September 2, 2022, as the schools’ selection date for candidates who will participate in the 32nd edition of BECE for School to select their preferred Senior High/Technical schools.
WAEC said the downloading of the school choices software, selection of schools and subsequent uploading of data online will also begin on July 4, 2022, and end on September 2, 2022.
The management of the not-for-profit-making organization also indicated that May 3, 2022, to June 10, 2022, will be used to capture the information, subject selection and pictures of the eligible students to write for the 2022 BECE.
Downloading of CASS software, capturing of candidates’ scores and subsequent uploading of data online the Council responsible for the conduct of the national examination said will start from June 27, 2022, to August 12, 2022.
“Please note that it is extremely important that the correct subjects are selected during the registration exercise. Finalise your registration data only after all corrections have been affected,” WAEC said in the release to school heads.
A staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) commenting on the 2022 schools selection date said flyers, infographics and short videos in 9 Ghanaian Languages will be released to guide BECE students in the selection of the schools.
The GES official told AcademicWeek that trained officers will also be present in all Junior High Schools (JHSs) to embark on a school selection sensitization exercise as part of efforts to ensure smooth 2022 computer school placement.
The sensitization and education on this year’s guidelines for school selection into second cycle schools, he said will take place in all the respective Regional, and District Education Directorates and in all basic schools across the country.
