Ferdinand | EducationGhana | March 23| GES Organizes Mental Health and Well-Being Training for Curriculum Leads and PLC Coordinators
The Ghana Education Service is organizing district-based training on mental health and well-being for Curriculum Leads and PLC Coordinators, scheduled for March 25, 2025. The training aims to provide essential support for educators.
In an ongoing effort to improve the mental health and well-being of educators, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a district-based training for Curriculum Leads and Professional Learning Community (PLC) Coordinators. The training, set for Tuesday, March 25, 2025, is a collaboration between GES and Katon 360 Ltd, designed to address the growing need for mental health awareness within educational circles.
The initiative aims to ensure that education professionals are equipped with the necessary tools to manage their own well-being while fostering a supportive environment for both students and staff. This training is particularly focused on Curriculum Leads at the Pre-Secondary level and PLC Coordinators at the Secondary level, as they play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience in Ghana.
Mental Health: An Essential Topic for Educators
In the wake of recent global challenges, the need for mental health and well-being support for educators has become more apparent.
Teachers and education leaders face an array of pressures—from managing classrooms to meeting academic standards—while also dealing with their personal lives. This training initiative is part of a larger strategy to create a supportive community for educators across Ghana.
By equipping key educational stakeholders with strategies to manage stress, promote emotional well-being, and build resilience, GES is not only improving the work environment for teachers but also enhancing the overall educational experience for students.
Focus Areas of the Training
The Mental Health and Well-being training will cover various important aspects, including:
Stress Management: Understanding and managing the stressors educators face in and outside of the classroom.
Emotional Resilience: Developing the ability to bounce back from challenges, both personal and professional.
Mental Health Awareness: Understanding common mental health conditions that may affect both students and teachers and how to address them effectively.
Support Systems: Building and nurturing a robust support system for teachers and students within schools.
The Call for District-Specific Involvement
GES has requested Regional Directors of Education to inform Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education to ensure the timely submission of the details for those attending.
These submissions should include the full name, designation, school, contact number, and email address of the Curriculum Leads and PLC Coordinators by Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The management of GES has emphasized the importance of adhering to this deadline to ensure that all relevant personnel can participate in the training, which will be a vital step in supporting educators’ mental health.
Why Mental Health Training for Educators Matters
Teachers are the cornerstone of the education system, and ensuring their mental health is a crucial step towards better learning outcomes for students.
By focusing on the mental well-being of curriculum leads and coordinators, this initiative seeks to create a culture of care that reverberates throughout the entire educational structure.
Furthermore, research shows that mentally healthy educators are more likely to be engaged in their work, leading to more effective teaching practices and better results for students.
As mental health continues to gain recognition as a critical factor in educational success, training programs like this one are essential in fostering a positive, supportive educational environment.
