Takoradi Technical University has intensified its TVET advocacy by engaging students and staff of Takoradi Technical Institute during SRC Week, highlighting skills development, career pathways, and post-secondary progression opportunities.

TTU Engages TTI During SRC Week Celebration

As part of its commitment to promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has engaged students and staff of Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI) during the Institute’s SRC Week celebration.
The event, held under the theme “Transforming Lives through TVET Skills,” attracted over 1,000 students and staff, providing a platform for dialogue on skills development, career progression, and the future of TVET in Ghana.

TVET as a Pathway to Employment and Entrepreneurship

Addressing the gathering, the Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Planning at TTU, Prof. Kweku Safo-Ankama, described TVET as an integrated system that combines theoretical instruction, hands-on practical training, and positive work attitudes.
He explained that TVET prepares learners for direct entry into employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship, while also equipping them with the adaptability required to respond to changing labour market and future skills demands.

TTU Promoted as Preferred Post-Secondary Destination

Prof. Safo-Ankama urged students of TTI to consider Takoradi Technical University as their preferred destination for post-secondary TVET education. He cited TTU’s industry-driven academic programs, strong quality assurance mechanisms, and institutional focus on producing competent and work-ready graduates.
According to him, these strengths position TTU as a leading technical university capable of supporting students to advance their technical skills and professional careers.

Explaining the National TVET Qualification Framework

The TTU Director also introduced students to the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF), explaining the structured progression pathways it offers. He outlined how students can advance from certificates and diplomas to higher academic and professional qualifications within the TVET system.RELATED LINKS
He noted that the framework provides clarity and mobility for learners, enabling them to plan their educational and career journeys with confidence.

Call for Skills, Teamwork, and Critical Thinking

Prof. Safo-Ankama further encouraged students to focus on acquiring strong practical and entrepreneurial skills that would enable them to create jobs, improve livelihoods, and employ others. He emphasised the importance of teamwork, innovation, and critical thinking, especially in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
He urged students to see TVET not as a last option, but as a powerful pathway for personal development and national economic growth.
