Introduction

Born in 1842 to a farming family in Teshie, Accra, Quarshie’s journey from apprentice to master blacksmith to cocoa farming visionary is a testament to his ingenuity and perseverance.

Voyage to Fernando Po

Six years after his voyage to Fernando Po, Tetteh Quarshie returned to Ghana with several cocoa beans in tow. Despite not being a native of Mampong or the Akuapim region,

Quarshie’s visionary spirit propelled him to establish the first cocoa farm in Akuapim-Mampong.

With determination and foresight, he laid the foundation for Ghana’s burgeoning cocoa industry, forever altering the country’s economic landscape.

Legacy and Impact
