President John Dramani Mahama establishes an 8-member committee, led by Prof. George K.T. Oduro, to organize the National Education Forum aimed at shaping the future of Ghana’s education system.

 


President Mahama Forms Committee to Organize National Education Forum

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organize the National Education Forum, fulfilling his pledge to engage stakeholders in shaping the future of education in Ghana.

Committee Composition and Leadership

The committee is chaired by Professor George K.T. Oduro, former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. The other members include:

  • Professor Goski Alabi
  • Professor Rosemary Bosu
  • Dr. Samuel Awuku
  • Professor Smile Dzisi
  • Kofi Asare
  • Stephen Owusu
  • Inusah Shiraz

The committee has been given two weeks to submit its report and plan for the forum.

Mandate and Responsibilities

According to a statement from the Presidency Communications Office, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, the committee’s key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a theme and sub-themes to guide forum discussions.
  • Identifying key stakeholders, such as students, parents, teachers, private sector players, researchers, civil society organizations, development partners, religious bodies, political parties, and educational researchers in the diaspora.
  • Proposing a venue and date for the forum.
  • Setting up a secretariat to document activities.
  • Providing a budget for the event.
  • Developing a stakeholder activity agenda with time allocations.
  • Compiling a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations.
  • Drafting a national education policy framework with an action plan for implementation within three weeks after the forum.

About Professor George K.T. Oduro

Prof. George K.T. Oduro is a distinguished academic with expertise in Administrative Theory in Education, Higher Education Administration, and Supervision of Teaching and Learning at both MPhil and M.Ed levels. He also teaches Qualitative Research Design at the PhD level and has supervised over 50 postgraduate theses.

Prof. Oduro completed his PhD at Cambridge University in 2003, with his thesis adjudged the second-best in the 2004 Best Thesis Competition of the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society (BELMAS).

He has been involved in numerous national and international research collaborations focused on improving quality education delivery in Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa. Prof. Oduro is known for promoting the concept of Leadership for Learning (LfL) in Ghana and is a strong advocate against the politicization of educational institutions.
