National Service Registration Now Open for Defaulting and Private Candidates for the 2025/2026 Service Year
The National Service Authority (NSA) has officially announced the commencement of registration for defaulting and private candidates for the 2025/2026 national service year. This announcement comes as part of the NSA’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible citizens who have completed their tertiary education can fulfill their national service obligations.
The registration process will open on Monday, March 17, 2025, and will run until Friday, July 18, 2025, excluding weekends and public holidays. This window allows students who missed their initial registration or were unable to partake in previous national service years to enroll for the upcoming cycle.
Who Is Eligible to Register?
The registration exercise is specifically open to:
- Ghanaian citizens who have completed tertiary education but were unable to register for the national service program in previous years.
- Private candidates whose credentials have been certified by accredited tertiary institutions.
- Ghanaian nationals who have completed their education abroad and wish to register for national service.
Eligible candidates must ensure they meet the required conditions as outlined by the National Service Authority Act (426). This act mandates that every Ghanaian citizen who is at least 18 years old and has completed an accredited tertiary education program must undertake national service for the state.
How to Register for National Service
To register for the 2025/2026 service year, applicants are required to submit several documents. The full list of required documents includes:
1. Letter Requesting PIN Code: This is a formal request for the issuance or reactivation of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) code, which is essential for registration. This letter must be addressed to the Director-General of NSA.
2. Attestation Letter: This letter must be from the institution the applicant attended and must confirm the completion of their tertiary education.
3. Certified True Copy of School Certificate: A verified copy of the student’s academic certificate from their institution.
4. Copy of Ghana Card and Student ID: Applicants should provide a copy of their Ghana Card or any other form of valid national identification.
5. For Foreign Trained Applicants: Foreign-trained candidates must submit a copy of their passport for verification purposes.
6. Payment Receipt: Applicants are required to pay a GH₵50.00 processing fee, which is mandatory for all candidates.
7. Original Copies of Documents: All documents, including copies of certificates and identification, must be submitted in original form for verification at any NSA Regional Office or Headquarters.
Where to Submit Registration Documents
All applicants must submit their completed registration documents at any NSA Regional Office across the country or at the Headquarters in Accra. These offices will be available to assist candidates with the registration process from Monday, March 17, 2025, to Friday, July 18, 2025 (excluding weekends and public holidays).
In addition, applicants are reminded that all documents must be verified for eligibility. The NSA has set up regional offices to ensure smooth processing of registrations and avoid any delays in the national service enrollment process.
Deadline for Registration
The deadline for the 2025/2026 national service year registration is set for Friday, July 18, 2025. All applications must be submitted within this timeframe to be considered. The National Service Authority is urging all eligible candidates to complete the registration process on time to avoid missing out on the opportunity to serve their country.
A Reminder for All Eligible Candidates
The NSA reminds all Ghanaian citizens that national service is a compulsory activity for every individual who has attained the age of 18 years and has completed an accredited tertiary education program. This service is a civic duty that all graduates must undertake as part of their contribution to the development of the nation.
The National Service Authority Act (426) requires that all eligible citizens complete their national service as mandated. Failure to register or complete the national service obligation may result in penalties or disqualification from future opportunities for employment within the public sector.

What Happens After Registration?
Once candidates have successfully registered and their documentation has been verified, they will be posted to various national service placements. These placements are typically in governmental departments, public institutions, NGOs, and community development projects across Ghana.
Successful applicants will be expected to report to their assigned postings after receiving further instructions from the National Service Secretariat. During the national service year, participants will be expected to contribute to their respective assignments and gain hands-on experience in their fields.
Fulfilling National Service Responsibilities
The opening of registration for defaulting and private candidates is a significant step in the efforts to ensure that all Ghanaian tertiary graduates fulfill their national service obligations. By ensuring that every eligible candidate can register for the 2025/2026 national service year, the NSA is making strides toward improving the service experience and expanding opportunities for young people to contribute to the country’s development.
The GH₵50.00 processing fee and the submission of all required documents ensure that the registration process is streamlined and efficient. However, it is crucial for all eligible candidates to complete their registration on time to avoid any disruptions in their ability to participate in the program.
