Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has rejected the proposal to conduct entrance examinations to admit prospective students into the university for the 2020/2021 academic year.
This comes after the university held a meeting on Monday, April 6, 2020, at the Great Hall, Gardener conference room.
In a communique addressed to all provosts of the university highlighting deliberations on modalities for the completion of academic work for the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year, the said meeting suggested that WAEC could conduct WASSCE examinations in September 2020 necessitating admission of freshers in January 2021.

The communique signed by the Senior Assistant Registrar (Affiliations) reckoned that it would be inappropriate for universities to conduct entrance examinations for prospective students due to the same challenges/danger concerning social distancing.
Knust cited further reasons such as the inappropriateness of using continuous assessments and class performance for admission into the university as it may not give fair assessment criteria for admission.

The suggestions according to the communique are to deal with all associated challenges.
Following this, the university has also considered a plausible adjustment to its academic calendar citing instances of reopening academic work by the middle of May should the COVID-19 situation improve.
