Gov’t to Recruit 60,000 Education Personnel in 2025 – Haruna Iddrisu Confirms in Parliament
In a major boost to Ghana’s education sector, the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the government’s plan to recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff in the 2025 calendar year.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, June 25, the Minister revealed that adequate budgetary provisions have been made in the 2025 national budget to support this large-scale recruitment drive.
Strengthening the Education Workforce
“This House can be assured that recruitment will proceed as planned to improve access and learning outcomes,” the Minister stated. He emphasised that the recruitment aims to address posting delays, reduce teacher shortages, and improve teacher-learner ratios across public basic and secondary schools.

Clarifying Picketing Concerns
The Minister also addressed allegations of teacher mistreatment during a recent picket at the Ghana Education Service (GES), following questions raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Haruna Iddrisu dismissed the claims and assured the House that he was actively working with stakeholders, including Bafour Eric, on resolving outstanding clearance issues.
Clearance and Posting Timeline
He noted that although clearance for 2024 postings was received in May, many new recruits began working in September, causing the clearance to expire by December 31. He assured the House that a renewed clearance is expected soon.
