GETFund has funded the nationwide rollout of Dext STEMBoxes to 667 basic schools, providing cost-effective, hands-on science learning. The initiative aims to democratize STEM education and enhance Ghana’s long-term technological and economic competitiveness.GETFund Funds Nationwide STEMBox Initiative for Practical Science
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has strengthened its role in promoting equitable access to modern, practical education by financing the nationwide rollout of the Dext STEMBox initiative for basic schools. The national launch, held on December 4, 2025, at Osu Eben-Ezar Presbyterian Church in Accra, was attended by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Education Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, his deputy Hon. Dr. Clement Abass Apaak, the Greater Accra Regional Minister Madam Linda Ocloo, traditional authorities, and leaders from across the education sector.Transforming Science Education Across Ghana
Speaking at the launch, GETFund Administrator Mr. Paul Adjei highlighted the transformative potential of the STEMBox initiative, describing it as “another strategic move to expand opportunities, increase access, and advance a national commitment to practical and modern learning for every Ghanaian child.” He emphasized that access to science laboratories has historically been limited, particularly in rural and peri-urban schools where learning remains predominantly theoretical. The STEMBox, developed by Dext Technology, compresses the capabilities of a full science laboratory into a portable, durable, and cost-effective toolkit. Mr. Adjei explained, “The STEM Box transforms the capabilities of a full science laboratory into a compact, portable, and cost-effective unit, enabling every learner to build, test, experiment, and explore with full hands-on engagement.”Democratizing STEM Access for 667 Schools
Through GETFund’s financial investment, 667 basic schools nationwide are receiving STEMBoxes, ensuring that practical science is no longer a privilege but a fundamental right for every child. The Administrator underscored the economic efficiency of the initiative, noting that while conventional laboratories require substantial investment, the STEMBox delivers a curriculum-aligned, hands-on STEM experience without the need for specialised facilities.Immediate impacts have been observed in beneficiary schools. Students who previously memorized definitions can now interact with concepts directly, teachers feel more confident in delivering practical lessons, and communities previously marginalized from STEM resources are experiencing renewed educational possibilities.Strategic Contribution to Ghana’s Economic Competitiveness
Mr. Adjei also highlighted the long-term benefits of the initiative, framing it as a strategic investment in Ghana’s technological and economic future. “This initiative supports the emergence of a workforce capable of competing in advanced industrial, technological, and digital economies, signalling that Ghana intends not only to consume innovation but to produce it,” he stated. The Administrator praised Dext Technology for delivering a locally manufactured, globally relevant solution, describing the STEMBox as “a uniquely Ghanaian innovation” that strengthens the national STEM ecosystem.GETFund’s Broader Commitment to Educational Transformation
As STEMBoxes are formally handed over to beneficiary schools, GETFund reaffirmed its commitment to interventions that enhance learning outcomes for all Ghanaian children. Mr. Adjei expressed optimism that “the young people who will open these boxes will someday open the doors to new scientific discoveries, innovations, and enterprises that move our nation forward.”Under his leadership, GETFund continues to transform the education sector with funding initiatives across multiple programs, including Free SHS, Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities, and the Students’ Loan Trust Fund, among others.Related Links
