The Ghana Education Service has dismissed claims made by former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum regarding the 2025 WASSCE performance and teacher allowances, calling them inaccurate and misleading.

GES Responds Firmly to Former Minister’s Commentary

The Ghana Education Service has pushed back strongly against public comments made by Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, the immediate past Minister for Education. According to GES, the former Minister’s attempt to attribute the 2025 WASSCE outcomes to alleged weaknesses within the Service is unfounded and must be corrected for the sake of public accuracy.

GES indicated that Dr. Adutwum’s remarks, which suggested poor institutional support led to the performance of candidates, misrepresent the facts surrounding the conduct of the examination and the enforcement measures put in place.

Teacher Allowances Were Not Cancelled

A key concern raised by the former Minister was that teacher allowances had been cancelled under the current administration. GES addressed this claim directly and clarified that no allowance has been cancelled. Management emphasized that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has already explained the delayed payment of November allowances and confirmed that the delay was technical and not a policy reversal.

The Service urged the public to disregard claims that allowances were withdrawn, noting that such information spreads unnecessary tension among teachers.

Strict Supervision Strengthened Exam Credibility

GES noted that the 2025 WASSCE was conducted under heightened levels of supervision to curb malpractice. The Ministry of Education and GES issued a strict directive warning teachers and invigilators against aiding candidates. This directive was fully enforced, leading to the detection and apprehension of individuals who attempted to breach examination regulations.

Management explained that these interventions were necessary to restore confidence in the examination system. The 2025 WASSCE results, therefore, reflect a more honest and credible assessment of students’ knowledge and preparedness.

Why the 2025 Results Should Be Viewed as an Honest Reflection

According to GES, the outcomes of the 2025 WASSCE should be seen as a clear and authentic representation of students’ performance. The Service argued that credible examinations are essential for educational improvement and national development.

Management called on stakeholders to embrace the results as a realistic benchmark that provides an accurate picture of learning achievements and gaps.

Preparing for the 2026 International WASSCE

Ghana is set to rejoin the international WASSCE schedule, with students expected to write the regional examination in May and June 2026. GES encouraged students and schools to intensify preparation, noting that international standards require early and consistent study routines.

The Service assured the public that all necessary support systems will be strengthened to help Ghanaian students compete effectively within the West African assessment framework.

GES Maintains Commitment to Transparency and Reform

GES reiterated that it will continue to work with all stakeholders to uphold the integrity of examinations in Ghana. The Service stated that credible assessment practices remain central to improving teaching, learning, and public trust in the education system.

The statement closed by urging the public to rely on verified information and avoid commentary that undermines national educational progress.
