Faith-based Organizations call for the amendment of Colleges of Education Act

A delegation of Faith-Based Organisations (Christian and Muslim Missions) which own Colleges of Education, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to discuss their proposal to amend the Colleges of Education Act, 2012(Act 847)

The delegation was led by the General Secretary of The Christian Council of Ghana Rev. Dr. Cyril G.K Fayose. Welcoming the delegation, the Minister for Education expressed his gratitude to the Missions for their continuous support to the education sector at all levels

The proposal to amend this act emanates from an earlier meeting held on the 26th of August, 2019 between the Hon. Minister and officials of the Ministry on one hand and Heads and Representatives of Missions on the other hand.

Leading the discussions, Dr Prempeh spoke on the critical issues and concerns raised by the Mission regarding some aspects of administration and operations of the Colleges of Education which detracted from the very purpose for which the Missions established the colleges.

Following the discussions held, it was agreed that there is the need for broader consultation with other mission heads to arrive at one that addresses the specific concerns and proposals for amendment of the Act for appropriate consideration by Government.
