Dr. Justina Adams of UCC’s School of Graduate Studies graduates as valedictorian of the 57th Congregation, recognized for her PhD research on cultural heritage and green reporting in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Rising Academic Star from Enchi Shines at 15th Session
Dr. Justina Adams, a native of Enchi in the Western Region, has been named Valedictorian of the 15th Session of the 57th Congregation for graduands of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) School of Graduate Studies. Her exceptional academic journey and groundbreaking research earned her top honours among her peers.
From Enchi Methodist to Doctor of Philosophy
Born on 18 May 1992, Dr. Adams began her education at Enchi Methodist School before attending Fiaseman Secondary School in Tarkwa. In October 2012, she enrolled at UCC and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting in May 2016. She continued seamlessly to a Master of Commerce in Accounting, which she obtained in September 2019.
Driven by a passion for sustainability and corporate governance, Dr. Adams commenced her PhD in January 2022, completing it in September 2024. Her doctoral thesis—“Cultural Origin, Green Reporting and Firm Performance of Listed Manufacturing Firms in Sub-Saharan Africa”explored how CEOs’ and holding companies’ cultural heritage influence environmental disclosure and financial outcomes across the region.

Research, Teaching, and Future Directions
Dr. Adams’s research interests span green reporting, risk management, and corporate governance, with a special focus on the intersection of culture and sustainability in business. She currently serves as a Graduate Assistant in UCC’s Department of Accounting, where she mentors students and contributes to curriculum development.
In her valedictory address, Dr. Adams urged fellow graduates to harness their expertise for societal impact:

Personal Profile and Passions
Outside academia, Dr. Adams is a devoted Christian and is married to Prince Charles Adubofour. She enjoys reading, community outreach, and exploring the role of cultural values in modern business practices.
