COLA STRIKE: Gov’t schedules July 12 to begin negotiations on 20% COLA demand by Organized Labour:
The government has scheduled Tuesday, July 12 to begin negotiation on the demand by Organized Labour for a 20% Cost of Living Allowance, COLA.
A statement signed by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, said Government has taken note of the demand by Organized Labour in the light of the current economic conditions prevailing in the country.
It said Government is committed to engaging Organized Labour to find a lasting solution to their demand and appealed to the Teacher Unions to call off their industrial action.
In an interview with GBC News, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wireko-Brobbey said the 20% Cost of Living Allowance being demanded by Organized Labour is legitimate and the government on Tuesday will be open and will come out with a win-win decision.
The four Teacher Unions are currently on strike over the payment of COLA, and they have vowed to continue with the industrial action despite Government’s persuasion.
