CHASS Declines Participation in 2025 NSMQ Launch Over Lack of Funds
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has announced that Senior High Schools will not participate in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz launch and balloting due to lack of funds to support student participation.CHASS Communicates Financial Constraints to NSMQ Organisers
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has officially informed Primetime Limited, organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), that schools across the country will not be able to participate in the 2025 NSMQ Launch and Preliminary Balloting scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025.In a letter dated October 3, 2025, and signed by Mr. Baro Primus, National Secretary of CHASS, the association cited non-availability of funds to support schools in mobilising and preparing their students for participation.According to CHASS, the delay in the release of government funds has made it impossible for schools to meet the financial requirements needed for logistics and travel arrangements ahead of the competition.Read also: Road to NSMQ 2025 — Full Schedule, Stages, and Key Dates Announced
CHASS Requests Government Intervention
The letter, addressed to the Managing Director of Primetime Limited, assured organisers that the decision may be reviewed once government releases funds earmarked for that purpose.“We want to assure the organisers that, as soon as government releases funds for that purpose, CHASS will review its position and communicate to you accordingly,” the letter stated.CHASS further expressed regret for any inconvenience the situation might cause to the NSMQ team and stakeholders while appreciating their understanding of the financial realities facing Senior High Schools.See also: GES and Primetime Set to Launch NSMQ 2025 in Accra
A Growing Concern Over School Funding
This development adds to ongoing discussions about funding challenges in Ghana’s pre-tertiary education sector, especially concerning extracurricular and academic enrichment activities.Several heads of schools have raised similar concerns in recent months, calling for timely disbursement of capitation and administrative grants to sustain quality academic and co-curricular programming.Education policy analyst Ferdinand Ellis noted that such interruptions highlight the need for “a sustainable school funding model that secures both academic and extracurricular excellence.”NSMQ 2025 Launch Still Scheduled for October 7
Despite CHASS’s announcement, Primetime Limited, organisers of the NSMQ, has maintained the original launch date, with activities expected to begin at the National Theatre in Accra. The NSMQ 2025 Championship is slated to begin on October 13, 2025, featuring Preliminary, One-Eighth, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Grand Finale stages throughout the month.See full NSMQ 2025 Schedule and Calendar of Events
