COLLEGE INTERNAL AUDITOR

The Position/Job Description

In general, the Internal Auditor will provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the College’s operations.

He/She will help the College accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic disciplined approach to evaluate and improve risk management, control, and governance processes.

Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities and duties of the Internal Auditor include:

  1. determining the reliability and adequacy of accounting, financial, and operational controls in the College;
  2. evaluate the procedures of the College to determine whether results are consistent with stated objectives and goals;
  3. monitoring compliance with established policies, plans, and procedures; appraising the quality of performance of those carrying out assigned responsibilities;
  4. assessing the extent to which assets are accounted for and safeguarded against losses; ensuring that reliable records form the basis for the preparation of appropriate financial and other data provided for decision-making;
  5. drawing the Principal’s attention to deficiencies in the system, instances of duplicated functions, with other inefficiencies with recommendations for remedies where necessary;
  6. carrying out special reviews of accounting and internal control systems with the view to minimizing weaknesses.

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant must hold:

  1. A good first degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable qualifications;
  2. A master’s degree in the relevant area;
  3. A qualified Accountant who must be a member of a recognized Accountancy Professional Association as well as a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors;
  4. He/She must have served as a Deputy Internal Auditor in a College of Education or comparable grade in a similar institution/organization for at least four (4) years.

Job Requirements

  1. Knowledge of Professional Accounting and Auditing Standards, including standards for the Professional Practice of the Institute of  Internal Auditing(IIA).
  2. Ability to prepare and submit a Risk-based Annual Internal Audit Work Plan.
  3. Demonstrate competence in the preparation of the Internal Audit Strategy.
  4. Exhibit the ability to prepare Internal Audit Charter.
  5. Competence to perform internal audit from beginning to finish, in accordance with the applicable Laws and Regulations as well as Accounting and Auditing Standards.
  6. Ability to effectively communicate the audit activity, policies and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by Auditees and other stakeholders.
  7. Ability to prepare clear, concise and submit professional Quarterly Internal Audit Report. Ability to prepare Annual Internal Audit report to the Internal Audit Agency (IAA).
  8. Demonstrate oral and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Interpersonal skills to work with persons from various levels and with varied backgrounds in the College. The ability to handle sensitive or delicate situations confidentially and in a professional manner.
  10. In-depth knowledge of Education sector regarding best practices, policies, current regulations and technology.
  11. Demonstrate high level of efficiency, accuracy, integrity and attention to detail.

  5. Three (3) reference letters for each set. NOTE All applicants should provide three (3) reference letters, at least one of which must have been associated with the applicant’s postgraduate studies
