The overlord of Dagbon Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II has appealed to the Canadian High Commissioner to support his people with scholarships to enable them further their education abroad.
He told Dr Heather Cameron to support Dagbon indigenes to study medicine, engineering amongst others abroad to acquire the needed knowledge and expertise to help develop the region.

Ya-Na Abukari II said this when the High Commissioner has paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi to congratulate him on his enskinment as well as wish his reign well.
The Dagbon overlord’s message which was delivered by the Nanton-Naa Mahamadu Bawa V also touched on the subject of business collaboration to harness the agricultural and minerals deposits potentials of the region.
This, the king believes will help the region produce its own resources for developing the region.

To this end, Ya-Na Abukari II urged Dr Cameron to further encourage Canadian companies to see the potentials of the kingdom so as to set up businesses there to job employment and development.
On her part, the High Commissioner said her visit was in “recognition of our history and our future.”
She was optimistic that the peace enjoyed the kingdom would open doors for the development and prosperity of all those in Dagbon and the whole Northern region.

Dr Cameron also spoke about the collaborations between Canada and Ghana citing specifically in the areas of access to potable drinking water, education, sanitation.
