Visually impaired students at the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind are calling on the government to fix the school’s road network for them.
The students say the school’s undulating road network is not disability friendly and leaves them with injuries because they stumble and fall when they move around.
The students made the appeal when the CEO of Paradigm Security Services donated food and educational items on the occasion of his birthday.
The Cape Coast School for the deaf and blind is an institution that supports the education of the deaf and blind in Cape Coast. The school has, over the years, been grappling with many challenges, from infrastructure to teaching and learning materials.
But one of the pressing challenges has to do with their road network.
The undulating nature of the road network in the school, they say, is disability unfriendly and troubles the students, most especially the visually impaired.
Erica, a visually impaired JHS two pupil says, she and her colleagues stumble and fall in their bid to move around their campus.
She says, “It has rained right now, and the situation is terrible. But for my teacher who came to pick me from the top, I wouldn’t have been able to come down for this program.”
Erica, who is partially blind, further stated, “I am partially blind, so I can see small and even if it doesn’t rain, the road network impedes our movement. I have to guide another visually impaired person in this situation. So, imagine how it will be?
Headmaster of the school, Abraham Annan Yemoson, indicated that the school’s joy would know no bounds if their road network challenge is tackled to save the visually impaired pupils from stumbling and falling.
CEO of Paradigm Security Services, Kwesi Afful, after donating food and other educational items to the school on the occasion of his birthday, also promised to sponsor two brilliant young girls up to the university level every year.
He said, his firm would partner another NGO, Anopa Project, to get their sports facilities constructed.
“On behalf of Paradigm Security Limited and Step Investment, I will sponsor two brilliant girls from this school to the SHS and the University level every year.
“This is not going to be the first and last. I am going to partner the school to achieve greater heights,” he indicated.
