“Verify First, Share with Caution” Tour Educates Students on Media Literacy
Accra, Ghana – On July 19, 2024, the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the Unimac GIJ MIL Club, successfully held the “Verify First, Share with Caution” Senior High School Media and Information Literacy Tour at Labone Senior High School. The tour targeted final-year students, many of whom are first-time voters, emphasizing the importance of critically evaluating the information they consume.
Media and Information Literacy Focus
Mr. @xtindi, a lecturer and patron of the @GIJ_MILCLUB, led an engaging presentation and discussion titled “Media and Information Literacy and False News During Elections.” This session provided students with valuable insights on identifying and avoiding false news, especially during election periods.
Promoting Peace and Political Tolerance
In addition to media literacy, the Education Unit of the Commission took the opportunity to promote peace ahead of the upcoming elections in Ghana. Ewurama Tuffour led a dialogue on political tolerance, while Moses J.Y. Gemeh, the Chief Education Program Officer, supported peace talks, encouraging students to engage in peaceful and respectful political discussions.
Empowering First-Time Voters

By fostering media literacy and promoting peace, the Ghana Commission for UNESCO and the Unimac GIJ MIL Club aim to create informed and responsible citizens.
