The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lydia Aziato, has commissioned multiple projects, including a dental clinic, a counselling and wellness centre, a medical imaging simulation lab, a zebrafish lab, and a graduate research laboratory.

UHAS Expands Health and Research Infrastructure

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has taken a bold step to enhance health education, research, and student welfare by commissioning several major projects simultaneously. The initiatives were led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lydia Aziato, who reaffirmed the university’s commitment to becoming a leading hub for health sciences training and innovation in Ghana and beyond.

Commissioned Projects

The newly commissioned facilities include:

  • Dental Clinic under the School of Dentistry, designed to provide hands-on training for dental students while serving the community.
  • Counselling and Wellness Centre, aimed at promoting mental health, psychosocial support, and overall well-being for students and staff.
  • UHAS Bulletin Newsletter, a new publication to strengthen communication, research dissemination, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Medical Imaging Simulation Laboratory for the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS), equipping students with modern diagnostic imaging training.
  • Zebrafish Laboratory for advanced biomedical research and pharmaceutical testing.
  • Graduate Research Laboratory for the School of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, supporting postgraduate training and innovation.

Strengthening Education and Health Delivery

According to Prof. Aziato, the projects align with UHAS’s vision of advancing health education and research excellence. She highlighted the importance of investing in both student welfare and cutting-edge laboratories, stressing that quality training in health sciences requires both academic and psychosocial support systems. The Dental Clinic and Counselling Centre will provide critical services to students, staff, and the wider community, while the research laboratories will open new frontiers in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.

A Model for Health Education in Ghana

Since its establishment, UHAS has consistently expanded its infrastructure and programmes to meet the growing demand for health professionals. The newly commissioned facilities reinforce the university’s role as a model for health sciences education and research in Ghana and West Africa.
