UCC’s 57th Congregation honoured 1,187 postgraduate graduands—including 46 PhDs and 605 MEd—highlighting advanced scholarship and UCC’s role in Ghana’s development.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) proudly held its 57th Congregation this month, honouring 1,187 students who completed a range of postgraduate programmes. The ceremony recognised graduates across doctoral, master’s and diploma courses, underscoring UCC’s commitment to advanced scholarship and professional development.

Diverse Postgraduate Cohort Recognised

Among those celebrated were 46 PhD recipients whose original research promises to advance knowledge in their fields. The congregation also included 102 MPhil, 124 MA, and 17 MCom graduates. UCC further conferred 3 Master of Nursing, 605 Master of Education, 64 MBA, 184 Master of Science, and 42 Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) awards.

Notable Doctoral Graduand: Dr Kwabena Antwi-Konadu

A highlight of the ceremony was the graduation of Dr Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, Manager of UCC’s Campus Broadcasting Service, among the new PhD holders. His doctoral thesis on media development in tertiary institutions reflects UCC’s strength in research-led innovation.

UCC’s Vision for Advanced Learning

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed UCC’s vision to be a leading centre for postgraduate studies in West Africa. He urged the graduands to leverage their advanced qualifications in service of national development, emphasising that their expertise is vital to Ghana’s social and economic progress.

“Your achievements today mark not an end, but the beginning of a journey where your skills and insights will shape communities and industries,” he said.

Family members, faculty and dignitaries joined in celebrating the graduands’ perseverance, particularly those who balanced demanding careers with rigorous academic work. The congregation also featured awards for academic excellence and research impact, further motivating the next generation of scholars.
