“St. Joseph’s SHS encounters a formidable challenge against St. Louis SHS in the NSMQ 2023, resulting in a difficult competition. Explore the round-by-round scores and the highlights of the intense academic battle.”

In a challenging academic encounter, St. Joseph’s SHS faced a formidable defeat as St. Louis SHS demonstrated their intellectual dominance in the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The competition at Kumapley Auditorium highlighted the intense battle between the two schools, resulting in a challenging competition for St. Joseph’s SHS.

The one-eighth stage of NSMQ 2023 featured Solomon Allotey and Stephen Awoliba representing St. Joseph’s SHS, while St. Louis SHS was represented by Philipa Afriyie Ennuson and Faizatu Mbo Abu Safianu.

At the conclusion of Round Five, St. Louis SHS emerged as victors with an impressive 52 points, leaving St. Joseph’s SHS facing a tough defeat.

The competition began with high expectations in Round One, as St. Louis indicated their readiness by requesting an additional booklet. While all schools answered the initial question correctly, Philipa from St. Louis earned extra points by effectively tackling five bonus questions.

Despite losing an unexpected question, OLA Girls managed to secure a bonus question from St. Louis, intensifying the competition in the first round. St. Joseph’s faced a strong challenge from their female competitors.

In Round Two, the Speed Race witnessed all schools struggling to provide correct answers within the first three minutes of the game.

However, St. Louis emerged as the standout performer, significantly boosting their score by correctly answering several questions.

In contrast, St. Joseph’s recorded an abysmal performance, with only one correct answer. OLA Girls, Kenyasi, secured 14 points, a slight decline from their previous score of 18 points.

The Problem of the Day remained uncracked, as no school claimed the perfect 10 out of 10. St. Louis led with two points, while St. Joseph’s and OLA Girls secured a point each. This challenging problem posed a significant hurdle for all schools.

St. Louis excelled in the True/False contest, winning 49 points. In contrast, St. Joseph’s and OLA Girls recorded 15 and 25 points, indicating lower scores in this segment.

In the Riddles Round, the “extra booklet queens” from St. Louis continued their impressive performance by correctly answering multiple questions, resulting in a total score of over 50 points. Their exceptional performance earned them the GHS 1000 AT cash prize for being the highest scorers in the competition.

The final scores of the competition stood as follows:

  • St. Louis SHS: 52 points
  • OLA Girl’s SHS, Kenyasi: 28 points
  • St. Joseph’s SHS: 18 points

St. Louis’s remarkable performance secured its place in the next stage of NSMQ 2023, marking a well-deserved victory for the talented students.
