In a heart-wrenching turn of events at the KNUST Auditorium during the 2023 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Aburi Girls’ SHS and St. Peter’s SHS faced disappointment as St. Augustine’s College emerged victorious. The competition was a test of intellect and knowledge, with only one school advancing to the next stage.

The 30th Anniversary edition of NSMQ marked an unprecedented chapter with regional divisions, and KNUST hosted the preliminary stages. St. Augustine’s College and St. Peter’s SHS, both esteemed for their academic excellence, competed alongside Aburi Girls’ SHS in a contest that would determine the frontrunner.

The competition began with a fiercely competitive first round, concluding with Aburi Girls’ SHS and St. Peter’s SHS impressively tied at 19 points each. St. Augustine’s College followed closely with 17 points. The round was marked by protests and disputes, extending the duration of the session.

In the Problem of the Day in physics, St. Augustine’s College excelled, scoring 08 out of 10. St. Augustine’s showcased their dominance with 34 points, while St. Peter’s and Aburi Girls’ improved their scores to 30 and 21 points, respectively.

The True/False Stage saw St. Augustine’s College maintaining their lead, answering all questions correctly and securing 50 points. St. Peter’s and Aburi Girls’ scored 43 and 31 points, respectively. St. Augustine’s further solidified their dominance by correctly answering riddles.

With a total of 56 points, St. Augustine’s College clinched the victory, advancing to the Quarter-final Stage. In a heartening display of academic prowess, St. Augustine’s showcased their commitment to excellence. However, the competition marked the end of the journey for both Aburi Girls and St. Peter’s, highlighting the fierce nature of NSMQ 2023.
